What is DIEP Surgery?

DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) surgery is a type of microsurgical procedure used particularly for breast reconstruction. This surgery is commonly preferred for creating a new breast after mastectomy in patients who have undergone breast cancer treatment.

DIEP surgery is a procedure that creates a new breast using the patient's own abdominal tissue. During the surgery, skin, fat, and blood vessels are taken from the lower abdominal area. However, during this process, the abdominal muscles are not damaged, which allows for faster patient recovery and less weakness in the abdominal area. Additionally, because natural tissue is used, the results can be more aesthetically natural and satisfying.

DIEP surgery is an important option particularly preferred for reconstruction after breast cancer. However, since each patient's condition is different, a comprehensive pre-surgical evaluation and clear understanding of the patient's expectations are important.
