What is Post-Mastectomy Breast Augmentation with Prosthesis?

Post-mastectomy breast augmentation with prosthesis is a surgical procedure performed for aesthetic and functional purposes in patients who have undergone mastectomy due to breast cancer. This procedure is designed to reconstruct the breasts and improve the patient's body image.

How is Post-Mastectomy Breast Augmentation with Prosthesis Performed?

In this surgical procedure, various techniques are used, typically performed in one or two stages:

Direct Reconstruction:During the same operation as the mastectomy, prostheses containing silicone or saline are placed to replace the breast tissue. This allows the patient to complete breast reconstruction with a single surgery.
Gradual Reconstruction: In this method, a tissue expander is first placed. The expander is slowly inflated over a certain period, allowing the skin and muscle tissue to expand. Later, the expander is removed and a permanent prosthesis is placed.

This procedure is planned considering the patient's general health condition, preferences, and body structure. Surgery duration, post-operative recovery process, and results may vary from patient to patient.
